Can Red Wine Help You Lose Weight?
In our fast-paced modern society of technological marvel, we often want to find a quick fix to our problems. For many people, the quicker something can be solved the better, and if it can be done using something that we already have, then that solution is hard to beat. Take for instance the constant struggle that many people have to maintain a certain body image. There are diets cropping up both left and right which claim to keep people healthy and looking attractive. One such quick fix that has appeared recently has its roots in Red Wine. Red Wine has been a common beverage in modern society for many hundred of years now so when news broke about the miracle properties of resveratrol, a chemical found in red wine, people generally became excited.
Wouldn’t it be great if simply drinking red wine could make one live a long healthy life? And then came forward the skeptics who wanted to know just how much red wine one needed to drink to see these benefits. Would it be one glass a day or one bottle a day or more? Who could know for sure? The answer is no one quite knows yet but we do know the risks of drinking too much alcohol for both our body and body image. It is no secret that alcohol can ruin one’s life and the fact that “booze” can make you fat isn’t exactly hidden from prying eyes. When you look around the store you will see low calorie this or low calorie that and even in the alcohol section you will find this holds true with light beers and wine coolers.
It isn’t a large step to realize that red wine too has a lot of calories in it, empty calories in fact which don’t really provide much nutrition to the body but instead work much like the calories in soda to hurt your image. It is an old wives tale that alcohol speeds digestion and intake of nutrients because taking up space in your stomach with something other than food only slows down the digestion of that the food. Indeed it best to drink your alcohol before or after you meals so that when food is present, it can all get digested in quickly. This technique might actually allow you to reduce you weight because your body will be getting more nutrients than if you drank your wine along side your meal. Red wine is not all bad but it is not the only solution to weight loss and a healthy life, at least not yet.
With further research into resveratrol we may one day have concentrated pills of the substance which will help our bodies refrain from aging but much work needs to be done on finding appropriate dosages and compositions before that can happen. Until then, drink in moderation and enjoy the fact that your favorite wine will have fewer calories than your average cocktail and if you drink it before or after your meals then the net impact on your body will be minimized as much as possible. Red wine itself may not be a weight loss solution but with some smart decision making on your part it doesn’t have to be part of the problem either.
