How to Choose a Great Wine

There are three things that you need to know about how to choose a wine that is good for you. You can do this by using the three Ps: price, preference and pairing. Unless you have these characteristics, then you may not pick good wine. Since these are crucial to your selection, it’s a good idea to go over the three components.

With price, it is simply how much you would like to pay for a bottle of wine. In fact, can you believe that there are good wines available for purchase around $15 - $20? That may sound unbelievable, but it’s true. Do you know what that means? As you’re learning how to choose a wine, you will also be learning how to get a bargain.

When you are learning how to choose a wine, you should have some preferences of what you would like to have. For events such as happy hour, you may decide to choose red and white wines. A heavier red wine would be more suited to people that can’t drink the heavier brands of wines.

If you are not sure of what to get, don’t despair. You can contact a local wine merchant in your area for assistance. They will be more than happy to provide you with different kinds of wines and will even go so far as to recommend some for you. However, if you are new on the winery scene and still learning how to choose a wine, some other suggestions include sweet wines, such as a Muscat dessert wine. There’s also a dry white wine like Chardonnay, which is rather popular.

There are also wines that you can pair up with dinner. Do you know if your meat will be red or white? Will you have vegetables on the side? Will you have herbs that are freshly made or dried? These selections are key in order for you to choose what wine you will have with your meal. Here’s a rule of thumb: If you have flavor in your meal, having white wine would be a better choice. If you have a hearty meal, red wines are better suited to compliment your dinner.

There are several uses for wine besides to have it with your dinner. What is wine used for? Well, in places of worship it is used for ceremonies such as The First Supper. However, instead of using authentic wines, most places of worship will use grape juice as the symbol of wine. The wine also represents the blood of Jesus Christ. So when the clergy mentions the blood and the wine, that’s what he’s referring to.

Wine is also used for health reasons. Some studies have shown that consuming red wine is better for you than white wine when it comes to your health. Drinking red wine has elements that are known to protect you against heart disease. So when you choose a wine, you know that it will be for a good cause.
