Red Wine From Various Regions of the World
Wine is broadly classified into red and white wine. Red wine is usually prepared from black or red grapes while white wine can be prepared from any type of grapes. The color of red wine is not obtained due to the use of red or black grapes, on the contraire the main reason for the red wine’s bold red color is the vinification process. This wine is prepared by allowing the grape skin to stay in contact with the grape juice and also the grape skins undergo a process known as maceration which imparts the bright red color to the wine.
There are many types of red wine available in the market. Here are few types which are produced in different regions of the world.
• Cabernet Franc: This is often used as a blender wine. It is obtained from the grapes grown exclusively in the region of Loire valley in France.
• Dolcetto: This is prepared from the grapes grown in the Peidmont region of Italy. It has a pleasant fruity aroma resulting in delicious flavors of licorice and almonds.
• Gamay: True Gamay are exclusively produced from the Beaujolais regions of France. Gamay should be drunk soon after it is bottled.
• Grenache: The grapes for this are grown in Spain, California and the Rhone valley of France. It has a delicious raspberry flavor.
• Nebbiolo: This is produced from the black grapes of the Piedmont region in Italy. It is dry and ages well for many years.
• Tempranillo: This is produced from grapes which are grown in the Rioja region of Spain.
• Zinfandel: The grapes are grown in California. Tempranillo has a spicy flavor.
• Barbera: Barbera is commonly used as a blending wine. This is produced by the grapes which are gown predominantly in the Piedmont region of Italy.
A true wine lover would always like to sip or drink wine from an appropriate wine glass. There are different types of wine glasses available for different types of wines. The sparkling wine glass which is specially used for sparkling wines such as champagne has a long stem and a slender bowl in order to keep the effervescence as long as possible. A red wine glass has a large bowl with a big opening to allow the wine drinker to smell the various aromas. The white wine has a more U shaped bowl which allows the wine to react with air in order to release its aromas.
