Pinotage is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault, traditionally known as Hermitage, and has gained increasing popularity in South Africa. This is a textbook example of how good this grape variety can be. Full bodied with dark berry and plum flavours and new French oak which adds well balanced complexity.

Both the Cabernet and Merlot are clearly present in this wine. There are dark blackcurrant and black olive notes from the Cabernet with the plummy, brambly Merlot flavours softening the blend. The palate is tight and firm with tannins and oak working well to make this a powerful wine, perfect for hearty winter dishes.

Mercurey is a region that consistently produces good quality wines at great value in Burgundy. This example is wonderfully aromatic with plenty of black fruit, particularly cherry, and underlying sweet spice aromas. On the palate there is good concentration of flavours and crunchy, firm tannins. A good partner for your roast turkey.

Fruit for this wine was sourced from Saint Clair's own vineyard at Doctor's Creek, and blended with a small amount from the Southern Valleys to add complexity. Bright ruby red in colour, aromas of raspberry and plum are complemented by lifted floral notes and a touch of spice. A luscious and soft palate with flavours [...]

Cos D'Estournel has been near the very top of the quality tree for many years (and indeed continues to push forward every vintage). This is a lovely, soft, mature wine which has shed its youthful tannin to reveal a medium-bodied, neat and pretty wine. Only medium-bodied, which is often a bonus in aged wine, allowing [...]

Always one of our most popular Champagnes, Laurent-Perrier maintain the quality of their non-vintage wines by limiting the release of vintage products to give their cuvées a high proportion of top-quality juice. Leaning towards a lighter house style, Chardonnay flavours predominate - crisp green apples and citrus flavours - giving the wine good food [...]

The Cahill Lane offering from this boutique Californian winery is more restrained than others, it has real Burgundian tension with oak, fruit and structure in perfect harmony. Obviously produced with a nod to France with a lovely purity of Chardonnay flavours which would put many première cru Puligny Montrachet's to shame. With notes of hazelnut, [...]

This is a great price tag for such a good Viré-Clessé. The nose exudes fresh and delicate aromatics of tropical fruits, which give way to subtle minerality on the palate and intense flavours of fresh stone fruit. Serve with pan-fried St-Jacques scallops.

An extremely well balanced wine, showing classic Sauvignon Blanc flavours. Ripe, but not overly tropical, and green without being too vegetal. Given an extra richness and dimension by the additon of 14% Semillon.
